Victorian Brooch Pinchbeck Saphiret Rare Find 1890s Collectible Jewelry Exquisite Design

ITEM: A brooch from about 1890 or the late Victorian era executed in a material known as Pinchbeck and set with very desireable rhinestones known as Saphiret. A rare, desireable and intensly collectible item.

DIMENSIONS: The brooch measures a substantial 2 inches wide by just over an inch and a quarter tall. It is a stacked, or tiered brooch standing about 2/3rds of an inch deep. It weighs in at 14.9 grams.

CONSTRUCTION: Stacked or tiered, layered construction consists of three circles, a larger center circle upon which two smaller circles are stacked and held together with solder. Overtop the two mid level circles are laid highly ornate, textural and detailed leaves, one per side or half and half. Bisecting the midline is a ribbon running vertically forming the top tier and in which the Saphiret glass rhinestones are set.

ABOUT SAPHIRET: Created in Gablonz, Czechloslovakia in the mid 1800's by mixing gold into the recipe for glass or crystals. At a later date another stone dubbed sappharine was used in many costume jewelry designs, including designs by Weiss, Eisenberg, Florenza and others. There is a distinct difference between these two stones and collectors are very particular about correct labeling and identification.
These are beautiful, unfoiled saphiret stones - a rare design element with a very unusual setting in that many saphirets were set into mirrored, or foiled backed settings. What this does for these stones is simply astounding. It provides a depth of field and a liquidity which simply would not be there were they foiled. If you are not familiar with saphiret, it is worth it to do a quick google images tour of the stone to see what I mean by this. These stones are a curious species, appearing brick red from a certain angle and ranging from a soft sky blue to a deepest saphire blue from another. I have taken photos in natural light, flourescent/cold light and with a flash to try to capture this play of color. A remarkable stone with a loyal following amongst those in the know!

ABOUT PINCHBECK: Invented by a watchmaker, named Christopher Pinchbeck in the mid 1700s as a substitute for gold, an imitiation lighter in weight and much less expensive it is an alloy of copper and zinc who employed it first for watches and watch chains, then expanded into articles of jewelry, buckles and various other jewelry items and objects of vice and virtue. Considered one of the best materials for costume jewelry until the mid-19th century, when it began to be supplanted by rolled gold, 9K gold and other gilding techniques or gold/metal alloys.

CONDITION: This brooch is in glorious, vintage condition. It has been around for over 100 years and yet it retains it's beautiful surfaces over 99.9% of it's body. There are aged appropriate signs of wear, minimal surface scratches and tiny pinprick areas of darkened areas but no actual metal breakdown that I have seen. Patina or tarnish is not the same as verdegris, a green rust signifying that the actual metal has begun to decompose.
The saphiret stones are in good to very good condition, tiny flea bites are present to one or two facets. Nothing major and perfectly in keeping with the age/make/material. They are well seated and are in a brilliant cut similar to what we refer to as 'Old Mine Cut' with an open culet and an unfoiled state. The open 'C' clasp and barrel hinge with over reaching pinback is typical for the era and in perfect working order, if very slightly bowed. Over all, this is a supremely lovely brooch and a true historical relic of great quality and high style. In short it is a rare find and a true collectors item.

PAYMENT: I accept paypal. I also favor the 'or best offer' method for pricing. I love a bargain as much as the next person, so if you just adore this brooch (and what's not to adore?) but you differ at the asking then by all means, Please ~ make me an offer! Opal Diamond Ring Platinum Top Art Nouveau by AntiquingOnLine

$

2,500.00USD

Art Nouveau Opal Diamond Ring with Platinum Top

Fabulous large precious opal and diamond ring with a platinum top and 14 karat rose gold shank. The precious opal, measuring 18mm wide by 21.5mm long, radiates its rainbow-like colors in multi-hued iridescence when exposed to different angles of light.

This outstanding opal is surrounded by a platinum band holding 26 single cut diamonds approximately .05pt each with a total weight of approximately 1.5 carats. The 14 karat rose gold shank is decorated with an engraved flower on the top of each side and is secured to the platinum top via a series of "wires". Marked 14K on shank with an unknown makers mark that appears to be m.k.

Size: 7-1/2; top: width: 23mm, length: 28mm, depth: 5mm.

There is crazing to the interior of the opal and the ring is priced accordingly. No doubt the crazing is due to age and lack of proper care. There are no cracks to the opal; the crazing is limited to the interior. Proper care, i.e., saturating the stone with oil or water and storing the ring in moist absorbent cotton to avoid future aging.

Vintage 14k Gold Marquise CZ Engagement Ring, Solitaire Ring, Estate Jewelry, Simon Sobie & Co. Ring, Rare NYC Designer, Signed, Size 8 by YesterdaysSilhouette

320.00USD

Vintage 14k Gold Marquise CZ Engagement Ring, Solitaire Ring, Estate Jewelry, Simon Sobie & Co. Ring, Rare NYC Designer, Signed w/ Hallmark, Size 8

A rare and fancy find if there ever was one! This ring comes from a prestigious New York City jewelry company located on 5th Avenue. The S14kS hallmark indicates this is Simon Sobie & Co. ring which was produced between the years of 1963 and 1987, which are the dates of the hallmark's registration and expiration. The band is made of 14k solid yellow gold. The stone is a solitaire marquise cut cubic zirconia. The stone has a beautiful luster and everything about the ring is in amazingly EXCELLENT condition! The total weight of the ring is 2.6 grams. My guesstimate on the carat size of the stone would be at least 2.5cts, but I have not removed the stone from it's setting to weigh it individually. Marquise CZ measures: 7 mm X 14mm. Height of setting: 6mm. Size 8.

Insurance is INCLUDED in the shipping costs for US residents! I am happy to ship internationally! Please CONVO me for country specific shipping rates.

Antique Victorian Earrings. Banded Agate. by TheDeeps

$
0
0

320.00USD

Antique Victorian earrings made from banded agate. Spare and beautiful pieces, with graduated, descending banded agate beads hand wired in sterling silver. Strikingly minimal, cut from organic specimens. Pale horizontal bands form stripes through the center of the beads, on some - perfectly flat, and others, with a beautiful wave. Within these stripes are often a second, third, fourth grade of grey or brown. These are very hard to come by, and I'm so pleased to be able to offer them in the shop. Sterling silver earwires are replacements, and have the same deep patina as the wiring between beads. In good condition with very fine notes of wear. Unsigned. A rare and handsome set of Victorian banded agate earrings, in an equally hard to find affordable price.

1 13/16 inch from the top of the wire to the end of the earring

Antique Lace Up Boots Shoes Circa 1890 by KarmaRox

$

165.00USD

These late Victorian, early Edwardian ladies shoes are a tanned camel colored brown leather...soft and supple. They lace up the front with matching brown laces. Lovely tapered heel typical of that Titanic era. These are in wonderful condition for their age.

The toes are a bit scuffed (see pic 5) but this does not detract from the overall look. Inside the boot top is stamped "W.H. Guth & Co, St. Mary's W. Va" The heels are very sturdy. There is a piece of tape which I have not tried to remove at the end of one lace. Laces are identical and appear to be original to the shoes.

Although the wearing of these antique shoes is not recommended, I will be glad to provide measurements--feel free to convo me.

True Vintage. Always.
